Whenever we are in the Poconos, there is always a built-in stop for a meal at the Snydersville Family Diner. Since my parents purchased a vacation home in the 1970s, this place has always been a family favorite. The menu — breakfast, lunch and dinner — offers wholesome, “feel good” diner fare.
My favorite is the roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy accompanied with a salad. The house dressing is sweet and tangy. IIf they served it in a glass I would honestly drink it! All pies and cakes are baked on the premises and are delicious. And the pie a-la-mode includes the coldest Hershey’s premium ice cream.
The food is reasonably priced and you always leave the place pleasantly stuffed.
On our way up to the Poconos we stopped at Toby’s Cup, a roadside shack that offers an interesting menu of cheesesteaks, hamburgers, hot dogs and milkshakes. Toby’s Cup has been around for a while. I remember passing the place as a kid and had my first “Toby’s” experience in college.
After telling the family about Toby’s Cup when we passed it several times over the past few years, today was the day they had an opportunity to experience this place themselves.
My wife and two daughters had cheesesteaks. My son, a hamburger. Everyone had a “Thick Vanilla,” one of two styles of milkshakes that do not disappoint.
For less than $40, everyone ate and enjoyed this classic roadside eatery. Definitely worth a stop when you are passing through Phillipsburg on Route 22.
